Machine Learning for Biological Image Analysis

Imaging cells under a microscope is a powerful way to uncover new aspects of biology, learn more about diseases, and discover new treatments — but how do you actually extract meaningful information from a picture of a cell? In this semilab, we'll walk through this process using real data. You'll learn how computers can automatically identify individual cells within images, measure their characteristics, and what kinds of data analysis methods we use to answer biological questions with these complex measurements. We'll then explore some newly emerging deep learning methods that are transforming the field: models that can enhance images and reveal details that are invisible to the human eye. By the end of the semilab, you will have experience with cutting-edge computational methods used in research labs today.

Prerequisites: Some experience with Python is recommended for this semilab.
